NB. Where a public holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday it is common practice to "hacer puente" (make the bridge) i.e. have a very long weekend. You may notice that many of the public holidays amazingly seem to fall on a Tuesday or Thursday. Also, Spain practically shuts down for the entire month of August and most businesses run on a skeleton staff or close down completely for this period.
